For individuals, couples, families and friends: an amazing set of photos and an unforgettable experience. Kim Ayres is a narrative and portrait photographer based in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, with a love for theatrical and cinematic visual storytelling. Ever wanted to improve your photography? Every Tuesday at 7.30pm UK time Kim live streams his video podcast called "Understanding Photography with Kim Ayres".

You will be shown tips and techniques on photography and editing, given insights behind the scenes of photo shoots, set challenges, and you can join in the live chat. For those who have not yet had both vaccines, there are still plenty of outdoor, socially distanced options. Get in touch for a no-obligation chat to explore ideas and possibilities.

If you would like to discover the stories behind a whole range of different kinds of photo shoots, then explore the section of my blog labelled Tales From The Shutter. Kim is simply brilliant, quietly puts his subject at ease and clearly relishes staging unusual and fantastical photography sessions; this he does with a passion.
Services
Most of us feel intensely self-conscious, and worry about all the bits we dislike about ourselves, the moment someone points a camera at us.
Photography can often feel like it's something being done to us, whether we want it or not.
There's a huge power imbalance with photography - the person with the camera seems to hold all the power.
They can make us look amazing or ridiculous, and this makes us feel tense and defensive the moment a camera appears.
We put on our best "camera face" and desperately hope it won't be as awful this time, while fearing it probably will.
Photos are the gateway to our memories, and the importance of them grows over time.
When we look back at our pictures from our youth, with our friends, our partners, our families, the places and events we went to, then the past comes back to life.
Personal photos can be about capturing this point in time - how we look, where we are, who we are with.
They can also be an exploration of different sides to our personalities - a chance to play with different looks, outfits, and locations.
Narrative, storytelling photography: create scenes from a book, movie or your own epic fantasies.
Instant decisions are made by your potential customers, the moment they look at the photos on your website, social media or printed material.
This first impression made about the quality of your service or products, profoundly influences the decisions on whether or not you are worth contacting.
Whether you are a sole trader working out of your garden shed, or an SME on the high street, or a fast growing organisation, it's important you have the right photos to impress the clients you want, and filter out the ones you don't.
Combining a creative approach to storytelling with classical composition and quirky execution can make a world of difference in transforming a launch, an event or a PR stunt into an impactful image with strong share-ability.
In a world saturated with mobile phone photography, a great photo will make you and your client stand out.
Whether it's part of a press shoot, an all-day launch event or assistance in a longer term marketing strategy; I can work with you right through the creative journey to help generate powerful, impactful results.
You can look at the photos on this website, and you can read the testimonials from satisfied clients, but what actually goes into creating images like these?.
The day after this shoot I had a hangover.
I was feeling sick with tiredness, aching all over, and my head refused to stop pounding despite downing quantities of ibuprofen and paracetamol.
This was not alcohol induced, however, but instead had come about from eating way too much chocolate!
So if we take the photo from this corner of the restaurant, we could have Ed in the foreground looking in command, with customers and waiting staff in the mid-ground behind him, and the kitchen and bar in the background.
