Adrian Ensor
As a photographer, you put in a lot of effort, both technical and artistic, leading up to the decisive moment a picture is taken. Much of that work can be undone by a one-size-fits-all machine print. Skilled work in the darkroom not only helps deliver what was in your mind's eye, but can even enhance it. Adrian Ensor's Black and White Printing Workshops and Toning Workshops will show you how to assess your negatives and how to print them so the light and subject can emerge fully from the negative.

Adrian Ensor has been a professional black and white printer for over 45 years. During that time, he has worked with many major photographers across a diverse range of areas from advertising and fashion to reportage and fine art. His workshops are run on a one-to-one basis to ensure individual attention, and are tailored to suit your experience, so that everyone, from beginner to expert, can improve their darkroom skills.
Services
Working as a professional printer for over 45 years has given me a unique and in-depth insight into what is required to produce prints.
Working not only to meet deadlines, but also to interpret what a photographer has in mind.
This has given me the chance to find and hone the techniques and working practices that produce the best results.
And these are what I will share with you during your workshop.
Whether I am working with a photographer or on my own images, the first consideration is the negative.
The negative gives you all the information that you need.
It is a matter of following the light.
Printing is about balance and how to achieve this balance.
I have been looking at and assessing negatives for a long time on a daily basis.
During this process I am responding to, rather than analysing, when I choose which image to print from a contact sheet.
If it is one of my own shots, then I know what works for me.
